#KahunaArtLove – The Cartographers

“I wisely started with a map.”

J.R.R.Tolkien

This week’s #KahunaArtLove post is all about the mapmakers, the world creators, the cartographers. While there any many that create maps that show us around our world, there are many, many others showing us around other worlds.

Created from sheer imagination, their canyons, rivers, mountains and oceans give you the feeling you’re looking at a real place, where real people live and take you to another world.

First up is Caeora. You can find them on their website (https://www.caeora.com), as well as on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter and Patreon.

So what’s so special about this gentleman? Well, besides a great style in his mapmaking, he regularly shares his techniques with the rest of us. Video posts show his techniques live and he also gives away other assets as well as maps. Just watching some of his work-in-progress videos have made me a better mapmaker, albeit nowhere near as talented as Caeora.

Check him out and show him some love!

Next up is Elven Tower Cartography. These are the folks behind Dungeon Vault Magazine.

So here’s the cool thing. Right off the bat, you have maps that are accessible. They even include descriptions of the rooms as suggestions for your own adventures. And for a small fee on their Patreon, you can get access to the files to modify these maps for your own use.

They’ve got tons of stuff on their website, https://www.elventower.com/. You can follow them on Twitter, and be sure to check out their Patreon

Last up this week is Paths Peculiar (https://www.wistedt.net/). I really like their style of drawing. It has the look of something you would find in a dusty tome full of legends and treasure maps.

And they have a great range of material to work with, from creepy mansions to space-based colonies. Perfect for just about any adventure you’d like to take on!

Besides their website, you can find them on Twitter and Instagram.
