#KahunaArtLove – Sci-Fi Edition

So, response this week was not as great as I would have liked, so I went hunting myself for some great sci-fi artists. And I think I found some good ones.

First up is Eric Gagnon, a senior concept artist and art director. He worked in the gaming and entertainment industries and is also a freelancer.

What really struck me about Eric’s work is the use of light and his composition. Both conspire to lead your eye to a focal point, It is very structural, with strong clean lines and an industrial feel.

You can follow Eric on ArtStation at gryphart.artstation.com

Next up is Hiroaki Matsui, a digital matte painter from Japan. You can find his work at https://hiroakimatsui.artstation.com/

I love good matte work, whether digital or traditional paint. It can make or break a scene and is an art unto itself. And Hiraoki does it well. From the detail in the clouds to the structure in the city, you can make out the details easily and as a matte it creates the picture and atmosphere needed.

Besides ArtStation, you can find Hiraoki on Twitter: https://twitter.com/iustamikaorih

My final choice for this week is Dofresh. Based in France, they are an illustrator and concept artist with work in a variety of areas, including book covers and video games.

What drew me to their work is the integration of real world items (like swing sets and buildings) into a sci-fi context. Less fantastical and often a bit more gritty, the details in the images make the difference for me.

If you want to see more of their work, check out @_Dofresh_ on Twitter, as well as their ArtStation,

That’s it for this week. Give these artists a look, show them some love and tell them you saw it through the #KahunaArtLove hashtag.

Next week – a group that maybe doesn’t get enough love: Miniature artists!

Have a great week!
